Zanu-PF plots with a South African outlaw group to bring more terror to the country.
Four members of the military junta now ruling Zimbabwe in Mugabe's name are holding secret meetings with representatives of PAGAD, the notorious Islamic terrorist organisation based in Cape Town, South Africa.
The first meeting was held last week in a Government safe house in Kumalo, Bulawayo, when seven members of PAGAD met with General Constantine Chiwenga, Police Chief Augustine Chihuri, prison boss General Paradzai Zimondi, and Air Marshall Perence Shiri.
The meeting was designed to establish a flow of arms into Zimbabwe via PAGAD now the Chinese source has dried up. The South Africans also advised the Zimbabwe strong men on various terror tactics. A further meeting was scheduled for June 20.
PAGAD stands, ironically, for People Against Gangsterism and Drugs, and was first established in 1996 as an off-shoot of the Islamic Qibla movement. Initially it acted as a vigilante group, but its later activities, including the bombings of synagogues, gay night clubs, and similar targets led to it being designated a terrorist organisation by the South African government.
Also seen as ironic is the fact that Mugabe, far from being an Islam sympathiser, is a loudly-proclaimed Roman Catholic.
The development comes at a time when Jewish agencies are said to be planning an emergency airlift of the 350-strong Jewish community currently living in Zimbabwe. However, some of the older members of the community are said to be still reluctant to leave.
According to a Zanu-PF source, the terrorism advice given by PAGAD to the junta members last week included the deliberate murder on one's own supporters, then blaming the crime on the opposition and taking suitably repressive measures. Some observers believe this has already been tried out with the recent murder of two Zanu-PD members in Shamva.
The South Africans are also understood to have promised to supply experts to train inexperienced Zanu-PF militia in terrorist tactics.
The meetings come at a time when President Mugabe is saying openly that Zanu-PF will never allow the opposition MDC to take over the country, and hinting that the current situation could lead to civil war.
The harassment of MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai has continued, with his arrest, along with 11 party members, on Saturday. He was held for three hours, then released. No charges were brought.
MDC General Secretary Tendai Biti, arrested last week, appeared in court at the weekend, after a judge ordered that the police produce him. Today, Monday, a decision on whether to charge him with treason is expected to be made.
Meanwhile 40 African leaders have published an open letter calling for the Zimbabwe presidential election on June 27 to be free and fair. Signatories include former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, Archbishop Tutu of South Africa, and Jerry Rawlings, the former leader of Ghana. Observers believe this is a sign that Mugabe's previously blanket African support may be starting to slip.

Teaching terrorism to ZANU members is like importing sand into the Sahara ..... they have more than enough teachers of their own that know the lay of the land better than PAGAD, so this aspect of it is a little hard for me to swallow.
But the whole idea of Mugabe allying himself with a group that have been proclaimed terrorists by the sympathetic SA government is troubling indeed ..... this may herald an even more dangerous situation for the people of Zim.
The news that he may be sliding out of favour with the rest of Africa is good tho, as it means that they may start getting opposition within the continent that amounts to more than a few half hearted words.

If the junta is in control, I doubt Mugabe professing to be a Roman Catholic makes much difference. Perhaps the junta is just trying to activate the Muslims already in Zim... but, as Michael says, there's more than enough terrorists within Zanu-PF already.
Maybe it's a signal of just how concerned the junta is about losing the run-off in spite of their best worst efforts. When the reports include so many quotes from brutalized people saying they will vote against Mugabe in spite of the intimidation, maybe the junta already know they will lose the vote.
Here's a thought... what if the junta were trying to convince the PAGAD to initiate some attacks in SA or Botswana to take some of the attention off Zimbabwe.
I do question that the Chinese arms source has "dried up"... I think if Mugabe gets tight on munitions, the Chinese will fly them in... especially, if the ZRM proves to be real. Just seems the Zim people are in for a nasty war either way the run-off poll turns out.
I can't help but wonder what would happen if the ZRM were for real, one of the members was a pilot of a missle-capable aircraft, and that safe house could be GPSWAS pinpointed...... HHHhhhhmmmmm...

Is Robert Mugabe really in charge of events in Zim or does a military junta run things in his name? In the annals of ideological incompetence Mugabe has single handedly destroyed a people and an economy whilst blaming everything and everyone except his own policies. Free and fair elections when he states the opposition shall never rule in Zim makes things somewhat pointless. Why not wait until he dies?

These African leaders are only signing the letter because it has to be signed. Not they believe in it, believe you me. Don't ever lay your trust on these guys. That is part of what they call mediating !!!!!

I think you will find this business about PAGAD is a red herring, its has been going for some time in SA even before the rainbow, but it is not a ANC favorite. Its claim to fame is one or more explosions in what is considered the more decadent parts of Capetown.
What is interesting are the comments made yesterday at the Harare Quill Club by the one time close wartime ally of Mugabe, Edgar Tekere. He urged Tsvangirai to continue his campaign, he predicted a heavy defeat for Mugabe and said there will be much forthcoming blood shed.

Majaya, it matters not, whether the letter/s were signed voluntarily or not, but the fact it was signed. The whole business of the letter will have been mainly brought about by the pressure of global opinion via the internet.
There is no place where these scumbags can conceal or hide anymore, murder a person from the opposition and it becomes instantly known to millions of people world wide. Thats why Mugabe has the look of despair about him, he knows the end is coming.

This is the WORST bit of propaganda I have ever read in my whole life!
Now someone somewhere is TRYING to link the Mugabe regime to Islamic Terrorism and moreover to a little group with hardly any power like PAGAD! Yes PAGAD did stand up against Cape Town crime in the early 90s but thats really where it ended. If the author of this absolute BULL can come up with names and facts I'd sure like to hear them. What a laugh....
Posted by: Dean | Monday, 16 June 2008 at 16:15
Yeah, quite a laugh, Dean... it was probably more like PAGAD was interested in learning new tactics from the ZANU-PF who've proven themselves masters of intimidation, brutality, and terror.
No doubt, it's just propaganda by those with broken bones, brutalized bodies, and those who've had to bury their dead. How thoughtless of them to suggest the ZANU-PF needs help with savagery.

How about this idea: get as many helium balloons as possible, attach a message to each one detailing the atrocities, and then release them all over Zimbabawe? If possible, float some over the army, and urge them to defect! They'll be kept busy chasing down all the balloons!

You are assuming John Doe, that the people of Zim are ignorant of the violence around them. The army are also well aware that they are instruments of represssion. To build on your idea however, perhaps we should try attaching small packages of food to the balloons with the message - "A gift to the valiant people of Zimbabwe in their struggle against the dictatorship of Robert Mugabe - with best wishes from Thabo Mbeki and the ANC".

Linking Mugabe with PAGAD is mere propaganda for the puppets who want more cash from their USA and UK masters.Keep it up Mugabe,we do not need more puppets in our continent! ALUTA CONTINUA!!!
Posted by: Sure Mbaruk | Monday, 23 June 2008 at 14:10
well theres a comment from an idiot. I assume, Sure, that you are a Shona ZANU-PF supporter ..... maybe you ought to follow MDC for a while and see how the other half dies ..... in one of many ways by a bunch of murderers led by a terrorist.
Zimbabwe is a dead wasteland as long as Mugabe holds the reins, and if you can't see that you're a brainwashed and weak minded fool.

A sensible approach to terrorism involving weapons of mass destruction
No security measures can not completely eliminate the activities of Arab terrorists. This is evident in Israel: a tiny country whose population is very concerned about security, can not prevent every terrorist attack. Enhanced security measures at airports, only transferred the attention of Arab terrorists on the other weaknesses, such as night clubs and bus. When was closed border with Gaza, Arab terrorists penetrated the West Bank. Arab terrorists, as tax evaders, always find ways to deceive the society. The attack is always one step ahead of protection, which only reacts. The only good protection - proactive, preventive: Attack of the Arab terrorists before they attack you.
